Personal
Recognising the importance of providing a full range of services, we are able to provide advice and support to meet the private insurance requirements of our commercial and corporate clients. Our service extends to assisting clients through the trauma of managing losses.
We understand the importance and value of clients personal possessions and the pain of loss of personal property. We believe it is essential to provide a full claims support service.
Risk Management
For our corporate clients looking for more than arrangement of insurance, our specialist risk management team provide a full range of risk management services from holistic risk assessment to more specific support such as Security, Fire prevention, Health and Safety and Business Continuity.

WPS welcomes Andy Cotter to the team
WPS are delighted to announce the appointment of Andy Cotter to their team.
Andy joins WPS an a client account executive having worked in the South West for many years in a similar role for a national insurance group.

WPS wins national award
WPS Insurance Brokers & Risk Services are delighted to have won the coveted Insurance Times Independent Regional Broker of the Year Award for 2006. Richard Persson of WPS receives the coveted award from David Parker of NIG group.
This success seals a fantastic year for WPS and is very much dedicated to our team of insurance professionals back in Plymouth.
Formed in 1968, we have for many years been recognised as one of the South West’s leading insurance brokers. Earlier in 2006 we completed a management buy out realising the succession issues that many businesses have but creating ownership and continued independence in-house. The buy out enhanced our position in our market place and has further enabled us to develop our reputation of tailored insurance and exposure based risk solutions complemented with bespoke claims management, health and safety and risk management services.
Winning this award is very much about belief. The belief that the founding shareholders had in us, the younger management team and the belief that the management team had in itself and in our staff.
Our business is all about belief, trust, loyalty and integrity; the essential ingredients to enable our company to deal with staff, our suppliers and our course our clients. It is our clients; the family run business to the corporate Plc and their loyalty and continued support that will of course ensure that our future is exciting, progressive and independent.

Health & Safety
As from the 1st July 2007 almost all enclosed public places and all workplaces in England will become smoke free when the provision of the Health Act 2006 becomes law.
The Smokefree (Premises and Enforcement) Regulations 2006 provides the definitions of what premises are considered to be “enclosed” or ,“substantially enclosed” for the purpose of the Act. It is important to note that a vehicle can be considered a workplace in this context as in health and safety law.
The Department of Health are producing guidelines to help employers comply.
In simple terms, employers will need to :-
Take reasonable steps to ensure that staff and any visitors or customers are aware that the premises (and vehicles) are legally required to be smoke free.
Ensure that no one smokes in smoke free premises or vehicles.
Display “No Smoking signs” as appropriate.
Employers are also being encouraged to :-
Develop a smoke free policy in conjunction with staff.
Provide staff with support to quit smoking
Ensure that staff know where they can smoke if they still want to.
There is no requirement to provide a smoking shelter. If you do provide an outside shelter you will need to be sure that it does not fall within the definition of “enclosed” or “substantially enclosed”.
Employers will need to decide how to deal with non compliance with the smoke free policy and how this fits with their existing health and safety and disciplinary policies.

WPS is one of the largest independently owned Commercial Insurance Brokerages in the South of England.
Our origins lay in the formation of Walker Persson and Partners Limited in 1968, with the subsequent merger with Spargo and Company in January 2000.
WPS has an extremely impressive corporate and commercial clientele, mainly South West based, but increasingly across the UK.
Our Goal
Our goal is to be “the preferred choice Insurance Broker providing Professional Risk Management, Insurance and Financial Solutions to commercial and corporate clients.
WPS employs a holistic risk managed approach to meeting the often demanding needs of its clients, believing that knowing and understanding the client’s business is fundamental when trying to build and retain strong relationships. We see our role as more than providers of insurance. We encourage corporate clients only to buy insurance for those risks which cannot be otherwise managed, transferred or retained in house.

WPS comprises a team of some 40 employees making WPS one of the largest employers in our sector in Devon and Cornwall
The senior directors individually have on average 30 years experience in the industry
Our client management staff are all experienced many having worked previously for major international brokers or insurers
Qualifications and training are actively encouraged and part of our culture. A large proportion of our client advising staff have professional insurance qualifications
Our Chairman, Richard Persson, is a board member at national level of BIBA – our trade organisation and has a role in representing the interests of brokers and their clients
The average length of employment across all staff is in excess of 8 years, demonstrating the ability of WPS to retain its key staff, all of whom are very loyal
